Supernatural, the virtual reality workout app that became a staple of home fitness during the COVID era, has returned as an independent product. Supernatural Early Access went live on October 21 on Meta's storefront, months after the app's original studio was shut down.
The app first appeared on April 23, 2020, when gyms were closed because of the pandemic and VR offered a way to get a gym-style workout at home. Many people adopted it and kept using it for years, up until earlier this year, when Meta closed the studio that built it.
The closure upset the app's following, and the Supernatural community on Facebook was particularly vocal about it. Before long, though, the founders announced they had acquired the rights to the app and would bring it back later in 2026 as an independent company. The October 21 launch fulfills that promise.
New users can try the app free for seven days, after which it costs $20 per month. Those who sign up for the $200 annual plan get an extended 14-day free trial, and paying up front works out to a $40 yearly discount compared with monthly billing.
For newcomers, Supernatural offers daily workouts led by coaches and set to popular music. Players move to the beat, striking flying obstacles with bats, ducking, kicking and working up a sweat. The workouts take place in highly realistic environments, which the Supernatural team says have received a significant visual upgrade in the new release.
The early access version starts with thousands of workouts, all the familiar coaches and hundreds of licensed music tracks. It also introduces a new home environment set in Laguna Torre, a glacial lake in Argentine Patagonia. Users can transfer their full workout history from the previous Supernatural app to the new one.
Founding members will begin with a custom bat, and additional rewards are planned throughout the early access period. Household accounts let up to four people in the same home share the experience, each with an individual profile.
As the team continues rebuilding the app, users can expect new workouts and music on a weekly basis. Planned additions include the return of real-time workouts with friends, for which a beta sign-up is already open, and a new mobile companion app that pairs with a smartwatch. New destinations and more rewards for returning and founding members are also on the way. The team is relaunching the app without any help from Meta.
