A number of Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25 owners are complaining that Samsung's newest software release, One UI 9, has noticeably shortened their phones' battery life. The update is built on Android 17 and has been reaching more devices in recent days.
The pattern is a familiar one. When a major operating system update lands on a previous-generation handset, some users find their battery doesn't last as long as it did before. It is an unwelcome outcome, but one that has become fairly common across the industry.
Complaints have surfaced as the rollout has expanded. SammyFans highlighted one user whose phone ran out of power after a little over five hours, although that person acknowledged the usage had been heavy. Posts on Reddit describe a different symptom: more battery loss while the phone sits idle.
Galaxy S25 series owners are also affected. One user wrote that they now have to "charge my phone 3 to 4 times a day," and other owners said they were seeing the same thing.
So far, though, these accounts look like exceptions rather than the rule. The reports are not widespread, and there is no flood of users describing an identical fault.
For those who are affected, a few steps may help. Restarting the phone is the simplest, and force-stopping apps that are misbehaving is another option. A factory reset is the most drastic of the suggested fixes. Large system updates of this kind can occasionally behave erratically, as the pattern shows.
Samsung has been busy on other fronts as well. The company has begun selling "Re-Newed" Galaxy phones on Amazon at prices starting below $500. Separately, a report suggests the Galaxy S27 could move down to 8GB of RAM, and that some other Android phones might return to 4GB. Samsung is also continuing to roll out Android 17 updates to several of its most popular Galaxy models.
