BMW is already dangling an incentive in front of loyal customers for its upcoming iX5, even though the electric SUV will not reach showrooms until early 2027. According to a dealer memo reviewed by CarsDirect, returning buyers and lessees can receive a $1,000 loyalty credit.
The iX5 is the first fully electric version of the BMW X5. The fifth-generation X5 will be sold in the US with gas, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains, while other markets will also get diesel and hydrogen fuel-cell variants. The gas-powered 2027 X5 40 xDrive can already be ordered, but BMW's website still lists the iX5 as "coming in 2027."
The loyalty offer is worth twice what BMW currently provides on the 2027 iX3. It does not require a trade-in and can be combined with other promotions. The credit works as a cash rebate off the MSRP for customers who buy or lease a new BMW through BMW Financial Services and have owned or leased another BMW within the previous 12 months. No other discounts or lease deals are currently available on the iX5, though that could change nearer to launch.
The incentive follows a media event earlier this week in Southern California, where BMW demonstrated fast-charging capabilities with IONNA and Alpitronic. There, the iX5 60 xDrive reached a peak charging rate of 464 kW, which BMW said can add up to 170 miles of range in 10 minutes.
The iX5 60 xDrive carries a 144 kWh battery that BMW estimates is good for up to 435 miles of range. Its dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup produces a combined 578 hp (425 kW) and 593 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-to-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. The SUV can tow up to 6,000 lbs.
Inside, the vehicle uses the Neue Klasse layout seen on the iX3 and i3. It includes a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and BMW Panoramic Vision, a display that spans the base of the windshield. A 14.6-inch passenger screen is available as an option. At 197.2 inches long, 78.7 inches wide and 68.9 inches tall, the iX5 is roughly the same size as the Porsche Cayenne Electric.
BMW plans to officially launch the 2027 iX5 50 xDrive in the US in the first quarter of 2027, with a starting price of $79,800. It will also be the first all-electric BMW built in the United States, with production due to start at the company's Spartanburg plant in South Carolina by the end of the year.
